Positive Reinforcement & Force-Free Dog Training Included with All Our Services
What sets apart from most pet sitters is how we will train your dog to walk safely. In today's world with cars, delivery & logging trucks, and more - dogs have become sensitive to loud noises. This is especially true with dogs that have been rescued or from a shelter.
They require a lot of extra TLC, patience, and attention because of their past experiences living on the streets, being abused & abandoned, neglected, tied up outside, or left in a cage.
While walking your dog, we will teach it our dog walking safety commands like: wait, cross, cross gentle, let's go, come on, leave it, and keep walking. This will help keep your pet safe and boost their overall confidence while walking.
We only use positive reinforcement techniques and have successfully trained our clients without the need for chocker chains, pronged collars, or e-collars. These so-called "obedience training" devices will only cause your dog pain and fear while walking and do not correct its behavioral issue. If your dog is anxious, it'll make the problem even worse as it puts pressure on your pup's throat and can cause physical, along with mental pain.
Force-free training techniques work because they're combined with giving high-value treats as rewards to your pup. Most dogs love food so it's a win win for everyone.

We specialize in care for rescue, senior, anxious, disabled, and special needs dogs so if your pooch has difficulty interacting with other dogs, you've chosen the ideal professional pet sitting provider.
We will work with their personality and support their challenges in life. If your pup has behavioral issues that you believe are manageable with positive reinforcement, we can help.
There's no judgement with us. Your dog's inner personality will shine with the care of Pooch Patrol Brookings.
Your Dog's Safety Is Our Priority
We will use our Ruffwear front-range safety harness for walking with your dog. It has a very strong and thick metal back clip that gets attached to a 10' long Wilderdog rope leash. Our leashes have heavy-duty locking carabiners so your pooch is always attached to us. Depending on your dog's past training received, we may either use your leash and/or collar - or a combination of ours and yours.
For walking at night, we use LED collars so your pooch will be visible to other dogs, people, and cars.
We take your pet's safety very seriously and will be there 100% with it.
During the warmer months, we will schedule walks for your dog when it's 60° to 75° outside. We will aim for about 70° since that's a reasonable temperature for most dogs. For smaller breeds, it'll be 60°to 65°.
Walking your dog when it's warmer than 75° to 80° will cause pain and possible burn injury to its paws because the concrete will be too hot (over 125°).
We also provide early morning and/or late evening walks between 6am to 11pm when temperatures are cooler.

Chuck watched our dog Reese while we were out of town for a week, and we cannot recommend him enough! Our pup has some dog aggression and separation anxiety, but in our first conversation we felt completely comfortable with Chuck's dog behavior expertise.
Chuck sends daily updates and photos (and a couple of adorable videos!) and gives a really thoughtful summary of what he and your dog did that day. Reese got to play with a new dog friend, go on walks and hikes, and meet tons of new human friends. By her first night with Chuck from Pooch Patrol Brookings, it was clear he really takes care of his clients like his own pets and family. We can't thank him enough for showing Reese so much love. She had an amazing time and we'll hire him again soon!
